SITE NEWS

NEW FORUM FOR ALL

For a while now MidiMart has been giving serious consideration to setting up a forum where midi fans from all over the world can get together to exchange ideas and information on all things Midi.

Well the good news is MidiMart has now set up such a forum that everyone is welcome to join and get in on the act.

Think about it:

You can chat about your favourite files and sequencers. You can place requests for files you thought you'd never get your hands on unless you were prepared to pay.

You can learn how to do you own files, how to add karaoke, and, if necessary, how to remove or adjust certain tracks within each file. The list is endless.

Also you're invited to chat about other things that tickle your fancy.

In order to be able to participate on the Forum and avail of all it has to offer you will need to become a member, and to do this you will need to register.

Registering is a very simple procedure and takes only a few moments to complete. Once this is done you're free to either join in any on-going discussions, or start up your own topic. It couldn't be simpler.

I look forward to meeting you all there. Just click Forum on our main menu.

Patrick.

Frequently Ask Questions...

Answer.

You get to share valuable information with other members, there is the Top 10 Downloads in mp3 format to take on gigs or just rehearse to, new midi files added (uploaded) before they go on our main site, requests, jokes, hear our members sing or play live in mp3 files, technical answers, photo gallery (take a look at who's who), a live chat room and lots more. Please read the Forum Rules.

Question.

I have joined your Forum but can't get access to the latest midi files?

Answer.

You must first become a member of The MidiMart Main Site. The Forum and Main Site are two separate ventures. Just click JOIN MEMBERSHIP (top left). Once you are a member, you will have access to all downloadable files and software on the Forum, as well as here on the Main Site., Forum rules apply.

Question.

Some of your files will not work in my file player (Vanbasco or Windows Media Player) Is there anything else I can use to play these files.

Answer.

We actually sequence our files through a sequencer, we very rarely use file players such as the ones you suggest. We do however, test all our files on a free sequencer that is on our site and we can guarantee that ALL our files play through this it is called The JAZZ Sequencer and can be downloaded from here or our downloads page.

Question.

What does (Not-MM) mean on your files.

Answer.

These files are NOT produced or sequenced by MidiMart.net, but are what members of this site or Forum have sent in. They are all of public domain and we see them as good quality files. They are there for you to use in the same way as you would use MidiMart.net files. You can alter or amend them or tailor them to suite your needs.

Question.

I'm having trouble with downloading your midi files. it seems that my browser IE for Mac keeps renaming the .zip file and can't uncompress or unpack it.

Answer.

If your browser attempts to rename the downloaded file you should save it to disk and then rename it with the appropriate extension. This bug has been reported in various browsers, including IE for Mac OS X.

It is not very important what the filename is, as long as the extension corresponds to the correct type, either .zip, .tar.gz, .tar.Z or .tar. The extension is listed in the select box for compression above. So, if you downloaded files in .zip format and your browser tries to rename it,  you should rename it to something like song.zip and try to uncompress it as usual.

Question.
What is the difference between Midi type 0 and type 1 files?
Answer.

Type 1 files contain separate information for each track. For a type 0 file, however, all the tracks are merged into a single track, although MIDI channel information is still retained. When a type 0 file is loaded into a sequencer, it will take each channel's information and put it on a separate track. So for a typical sequence with one track per MIDI channel, it will not normally matter if the sequence is saved as type 0 or type 1. But if your source sequence has several tracks assigned to the same MIDI channel (for example several drum tracks playing the same program on the same channel, but with an individual drum sound on each track), then it is best to export it as a type 1 file.

Question.
I have noticed on my SC55 that the display shows your graphics. How is this done...?
Answer.

Well there is no secret. It is done by adding SysEx (System Exclusive) to the midi file. Unless you know the SysEx code you can't achieve this by hand. However we have a SysEx Editor to download on our
Downloads page.

Question.

I can't unzip your files, I don't have a programme to unzip them. Do you know where I can get such a programme?
Answer.
Yes. You can click here to get
WinZip
to unzip the files on this site.

Question.
Where can I get a MIDI sequencer from, I don't have endless funds so can't afford a commercial sequencer?
Answer.

Just check out our Downloads page. You will find a multitude of programs for you to download (including sequencers) and they are free too.

Question.
Why do I get a continuous hanging note on some MIDI files I download from other sites?
Answer.
The simple answer is DON'T download MIDI files from anyone else's site. Just joking... There is sometimes an error when saving the source file by the original programmer and instead of leaving a couple of bars blank at the end of a sequence, they cut it off at the point the track ends. The note/s at the cut of point are usually a little longer than intended and therefore cut off mid note. The file then thinks the note should carry on (and it does). Just open your sequencer and find the hanging note (in the edit pane) cut the note to where it should stop and add a couple of bars beyond this note that are blank and everything should be OK.

Question.
Can I use your files as background music on my site?
Answer.

Yes. Short and simple answer. All we ask for is a credit saying it is sequenced by MidiMart.net (and maybe a link)? See ADD URL for linking to us.

Question.
Can I make a promotional album with your tracks in audio format?
Answer.
Again yes. BUT (there is always a but) we ask for a small mention on your cover to the album stating the music was supplied, produced and sequenced by MidiMart.net at http://www.midimart.net. Be very careful of the area of making recordings or promotional videos etc. As this is a very grey area where copyright comes into effect. Check you have the right to make a recording of commercial tracks with M.C.P.S. especially if your selling your album/s.

We have a copy of Copyright And The Law for you to read on this site. Just click the Copyright Law. If you want a hard copy or to save it to your hard drive, just click a blank space in the main area - Go to edit - Select All - Copy. Then you can paste this into your favourite word processor and print/save it. There is also a copy of this law in every download of the Full Text Listings.

Question.
Can I use your files as downloadable MIDI's on my site?
Answer.

You can (give us a mention though, if you please) but we do ask you to use demo or cut down versions of our sequences, so to get the full version, visitors to your site must join our membership. Why not just create a link (see Links & ADD URL) to us and we will also place a link to you.

Question.

Can I add my url to your site if it only contains your MIDI files as background music?
Answer.

If your site is of a music or midi related composition then yes, if your site has no reference to music or midi then we will NOT place a link to you on our site. However on saying this, we have no problem you using our tracks as background music while surfing your pages (give us a mention though), and you can put a link on your site to MidiMart.net (See ADD URL)

Question.
I'm looking for a particular MIDI file and I can't find it on your site?
Answer.

If you want a file we do not have and you can't find a good copy anywhere else, then why not try our members.  Just join our Forum, someone out there may have a decent copy of the track. Just click on Forum on the main menu top left of this page. You never know if someone may want one of your midi files too. Be sure to give as much detail about the track as you can.

Question.
What is the difference between the midi files on your site and the FULL TEXT LISTINGS?
Answer.

The main difference between our MIDI files on our site and the downloadable Full Text Listing are. On our site it takes time to browse all the pages and the midi list is there for you to download and browse at your leisure. The midi list is in both artiste and song title order (alphabetical). Also the Full Text Listings contain many othe midi files that are not produced by MidiMart.net. (These files ARE NOT MidiMart.net files and we cannot guarantee the quality of these files). The extra files on the Full Text Listings have been produced or found on the internet by others, (presumed public domain) but can be operated (edited) on by yourself, if you feel you are competent to do this. Why not send us a copy of your edited version to listen to.

Question.
I've downloaded a midi file and can't get it to play on my site How do I get it to play?
Answer.
Well you need to use the embed tag <embed src="folder/thesong.mid" autostart="true" hidden="true" loop="0" width="0" height="0"> and place it between your HEAD tags in you HTML page. (Don't forget to upload (ftp) the thesong.mid file to your server though). It will now play when your page is loaded.
